Our panel will feature Paula Fouce, the producer, director, writer of the film, as well as other key members of the cast and crew, including William Haugse, Kaimi Kaupiko, and Robert Wintner. The panel will explore key issues with the aquarium trade as well as the multi-level impacts on the community and the environment.

Please join us on April 12th at 8pm ET via Zoom for a Community Talk on the topic: AI for All? An Exploration of Real-World Algorithmic Bias. The featured speakers will be Mutale Nkonde, Founder and CEO, AI for the People and Chris Hemphill, Sr. Director, Commercial Intelligence, Woebot Health and NYU McSilver Institute Fellow-in-Residence.

Dr. Pierre Gentine and Dr. Courtney Cogburn, professors at Columbia University, are working with colleagues to predict climate changes at the new Center for Learning the Earth with Artificial Intelligence and Physics (LEAP), which is directed by Dr. Gentine. With a mission to create a new discipline that combines climate science, data science, and AI (machine learning), their research efforts ultimately aim to reduce uncertainty around climate projections. In their April 6th talk, Drs. Gentine and Cogburn will discuss their efforts at LEAP as well as their goal to transfer knowledge—through an equity and inclusivity lens—to diverse communities most vulnerable to climate change.

The May speaker for the Our Future is Science Community Talk Series is Marcus D. Walter, an Illinois-based news anchor and meteorologist at WTVO-TV/WQRF-TV in Rockford. Walter inherently uses elements of storytelling every day to craft messages about science and the local community.  Each story that he creates must not only captivate his audience, but be communicated in a way that is relevant and resonates with diverse audiences— and impacts them in ways that lead to the transfer of knowledge and/or calls them to action.
